New Town Centre proposed for Greenbank locals
April 7, 2025

In December 2023, Region Group, the owner of Greenbank Shopping Centre, announced it will seek development approval for a major expansion and revitalisation of its existing shopping centre located on the corner of Teviot Road and Pub Lane. This was an exciting announcement for Covella as this redevelopment would transform the existing centre into a vibrant Town Centre right next door to our growing community.
The proposed $220m expansion will be located on the currently vacant land between Covella and the current centre along Pub Lane – linking into the future Greenbank train station* – and include an additional full line supermarket, a discount department store, multiple new retail tenancies and ample parking.
With the Greenbank population predicted to grow rapidly, to more than 125,000 by 2041, this new, re-energised centre is set to meet growing needs of our wider community as well as increase the variety of stores and amenities available locally.
Greenbank Shopping Centre is currently home to a Woolworths supermarket as well as a petrol station and 17 other specialty stores. As part of the proposed redevelopment, Region Group also plans to undertake a series of improvements to update and refresh the existing shopping centre.
The development application for the shopping centre expansion is set to be submitted in February 2024 and following this, locals will be able to submit their thoughts to Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) about the masterplan. Pending approval, construction is scheduled to start in late 2025 and is set to open in late 2026.
We look forward to providing our Covella community with further updates on this important project as they become available from Region Group and/or EDQ.
